A Newark woman was killed and her co-worker seriously injured Monday evening when their car and another auto collided on Route 104 about two miles west of the hamlet of Williamson. Dead is Nancy Perkins Saunders, 24, 120 W. Union St., Newark, a former Fair Haven resident.
In- "fair", condition at Myers Community Hospital, Sodus, is Donna Patchin Wandersee, 22, of Newark. State Police said the car driven by Mrs. Wandersee was headed east when the crash occurred with a westbound auto driven by Wallery Kotlik, 19, of 965 E. Ridge Road, Webster. Troopers said Kotlik, who suffered a wrist injury and facial cut, told them he had moved to the right to give more room to the Wandersee when he lost control of his vehicle and veered across the path of the other car. The right side of Kotiik's auto was struck broadside. Mrs. Wandersee and Mrs. Saunders, who were on their way home from work at Xerox Corp.,where Nancy was a secretary, were pinned in the wreckage for about 15 minutes. They were pried out by State Polios Sgt. William Mulryan and Troopers James Hurley and Robert Murray. Dr. Raymond De Smit of Williamson, who assisted at the scene pronounced Mrs. Saunders dead about fifteen minutes after her arrival at the hospital.
Mrs. Wandersee suffered a compound fracture, of the right knee, fractured left wrist, cerebral concussion, cut forehead and chin, multiple fractures of the left chest and a fractured breastbone. The fatality was Wayne County's fourth in traffic for 1967.
The daughter of Kenneth and Liliie Perkins, Mrs. Saunders was born in Fair Haven. She lived in Newark for the past five years. She was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethern Church at Newark, and a member of Xerox bowling team where she was league secretary. Surviving are a son, Kenneth, of Newark; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Perkins of Fair Haven; four brothers, Arthur, Edward, Thomas and Frank of Fair Haven; two sisters, Mrs. Corwyn (Janice) Mathews and Miss Alice Perkins, Fair Haven; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services from Becker's Funeral Home will, be held Friday at 2 pm. Rev. Vance Campbell, pastor of Fair Haven Clarence Windnagle, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, Fair Haven, will officiate.
