I left New York State in 1964 for the west and ended up in Las Vegas. While there, I worked for a group forming a new memorial garden (cemetery). It was a pretty interesting job, actually. The cemetery is located at the end of the main airport runway, so if you fly to Vegas, look out the window and you will see it. Eventually I worked for a commercial real estate broker where I found my love for real estate and my current husband, John McCauley. I will celebrate my 35th wedding anniversary on June 30th. I have two daughters, one son and one four-year-old grandson who gives me great pleasure.
We moved to Glendale, CA (5-miles north of downtown Los Angeles) in 1972 where John had grown up and we’ve been here ever since. John owns a termite control company. I worked for over 34 years as an escrow officer. In California, escrow officers perform the same functions at real estate closings as attorneys do in New York. For the last fifteen years, I handled multi-state commercial transactions such as hotels, office buildings, apartments, etc. I did not graduate from college but have taken many real estate, accounting and law courses to obtain the certifications required in my career.
In 2006, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery, chemo and radiation. While this has certainly impacted my life, it does not define me. At the end of 2008, the title company I worked for went bankrupt and I was laid off. Since then I have been helping out part-time at my husband’s office (maybe I’m actually retired and don’t know it!).
